The Tennessee Titans sit at a perfect 10-0 on the season and are 6 games away from a perfect regular season. Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions lay at 0-10 and many are starting to believe this team will end 0-16. Detroit would be the first team to finish the regular season winless since the Buccaneers did in 1976 (0-14). The big difference is the Bucs were in their first season as an NFL franchise. Is it more likely Tennessee finishes 16-0 or Detroit 0-16?
Lets start with the positive, the Tennessee Titans. No one could have convinced m
e before the season that the Titans would be in any sort of perfection conversation. Tennessee seemed very flawed at the QB position with an unconfident Vince Young and a very old Kerry Collins. Young began as the team's starter, but quickly fell to injury opening the door for Kerry Collins. The rest is history. The ageless Collins has sparked a appearingly-weak Titans offense to a solid unit. Runningbacks LenDale White and rookie Chris Johnson are the major reason for this success. They bring thunder and lightning out of the backfield and force opposing defenses to put 7-8 men in the box. Even with all these men in the box these two RBs still put up solid numbers and most importantly eat clock. Opposing defenses have tried to make Kerry Collins beat them and he has. Finding WR Justin Gage proving he still has the downfield pass threat ability. I haven't even talked about the NFL's #1 defense yet. Lead by DT Albert Ha! ynesworth and CB Cortland Finnegan, no one has been able to sc! ore on T ennessee. It is now time to look at the schedule and decide if this team has 16-0 capability. This week the NY Jets roll into town red hot, but I do not see Favre and co. taking down Tennessee. After that Detroit, Cleveland, and Houston should all be wins. I look to the last two weeks against Pittsburgh and Indianapolis. I think Jeff Fisher's Titans lose both of these games and finish 14-2. I guess we get to deal with Mercury Morris, Don Shula, and those '72 Dolphins a bit longer. The Detroit Lions have been a joke of an NFL franchise in recent memory and are o
n the verge of putting the icing on the cake if they finish 0-16. The Lions have been in so much turmoil that they pulled QB Daunte Culpepper out of retirement. He almost lead them to victory last weekend against Carolina, but the Lions defense could not hold. Star WR Roy Williams was shipped away at the trade deadline to Dallas weakening an already soft offense even more. The defense is abysmal and there seems no hope it will improve. Head coach Rod Marinelli seems poised to lose his job at the end of the year and join already fired GM Matt Millen on the FA staffing market. Lets take a look at the schedule now to see if this team can scrape up a win. The Lions have three straight home games against Tampa Bay, Tennessee, and Minnesota the next few weeks. Then they head to Indy, come back home for the Saints, and finish the season in Green Bay. Well guys, I think this is the year a team finishes 0-16. None of these games look winnable for Detro! it without a lot of luck. Mark it down now, the Detroit Lions! will be the first team in NFL history to finish 0-16.
